Seekonk Public Library provides a tremendous value to our community. As you can see from the graphic above, the total value of programs and services in 2019 was over $4.1M. The public service return on investment was $4.42. All of this was done while using only 1.75% of all Seekonk tax dollars.
Because of the work of a dedicated group of citizens, the Library was awarded a Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners capital grant of $7.3M to offset the costs of the $24.5M project. The grant pays for 30% of the total project costs. The Seekonk Library Trust has pledged to raise $1,000,000 to further offset costs.
The public will be asked to approve the full bond amount at the Town Meeting and the subsequent ballot vote. However, once the state grant is accounted for, the public’s share will be $17,209,115—this amounts to an average of $124.18 per year—or $2.39 a week, less than a cup of coffee!
